Oamaru Race 1
7 Te Kanawa
Te Kanawa (#7) is worth forgiving for her two runs this prep, where she struck Heavy10 tracks both times. Third-up on better footing and up to 1600m should suit, while Kendra Bakker's 3kg claim gets her in well at the weights. Could run a cheeky race at odds.
Oamaru Race 2
1 Highlighted
Highlighted (#1) resumes as a 4yo after failing to put it together in two raceday starts to date. While he hasn't delivered under raceday pressure yet, he has shown ability at the trials and was also well supported at both race starts. Improvement is possible if he runs up to his trial efforts.
Oamaru Race 3
3 Reverberations
Reverberations (#3) hasn't threatened since his Riccarton win four starts back, but that victory came when he led throughout. With Billy Jacobson aboard from a handy draw, expect him to be ridden more positively than his last couple of starts. Much of his better racing has been when ridden up on speed, and he can be dangerous with the right run in front.
Oamaru Race 4
3 Descaro
Descaro (#3) has been below her best lately, but the step up in trip and better surface could be what she needs. Likely to be ridden quietly from a wide draw and look to unleash late. Capable of finishing over the top if things go her way.
Oamaru Race 5
1 California Gold
California Gold (#1) wasn't suited by the Heavy10 he struck first-up off a spell. Second-up over 2200m on a better surface should be more to his liking. Expect Leah Hemi to roll forward from the wide alley and give him his chance to improve sharply.
Oamaru Race 6
1 Enterprise
TIP OF THE DAY
Enterprise (#1) was heavily backed first-up on the Riccarton Synthetic but didn't fire on the all-weather track. Second-up and back on turf, he's capable of showing his true ability. Looks a strong chance to bounce back here.
Oamaru Race 7
14 Abit Sassy
Abit Sassy (#14) looks over the odds. She was strong late behind Cypress at Riccarton last start, running the fastest final 200m of the race. With Abdul Najib's 3kg claim, she drops in weight and looks a great each way hope at odds.
Oamaru Race 8
8 Morus
Morus (#8) has been racing fairly against stronger fields of late and will find this more suitable. From a low draw under Kylie Williams, he should get a soft run in transit. A slightly better surface should also help, and he can be competitive here.
