Sectionally there weren't many better in the maiden last week than Smoking Ashes (#5). Came from a mile back and flew to finish fifth. Going great guns and a move to a better draw tonight could be keen to changing up the fortunes, looks a nice bet in a good field.

In and all around the action lately, Holly Highlander (#6) finally gets the race she should win. Has taken on and beaten much better fields than this and if she can get into the right spot early then she'll have the wood on all in this field.

7 Jazzy's Upstart
At first glance the two trial runs for Jazzy's Upstart (#7) don't fill you with a lot of confidence. But break them down and they're very strong. Finds the perfect race to kickstart her campaign in and landing Carter Dalgety in the juniors race is a big plus. She'll improve with the run but might not need to to win this.

TIP OF THE DAY
Lovely slide down in grade here tonight for Harriet's Moment (#8) when you look at some of the races she has been competing in lately. Many here are just out of maidens and she's been in feature mares races and competing. Won't get many better chances than this.

3 Smackdown
Youngster from the Steven Reid stable, Smackdown (#3) brings some sharp public form to today's debut. Looks every bit a bright prospect for the future and recent trial win was exceptionally good. Might choose to dominate this from the top end and not look back.

7 Triple G
A really sharp recent trial at Rangiora suggested Triple G (#7) has returned in fine fettle. Talented pacer with a few issues but at his best he's a future open class pacer without doubt. Might look to press forward here and take bad luck out of the equation. Great opportunity to start the campaign on the right note.

5 Atlantic City
Stunning win here last time from Atlantic City (#5) and given she was still on the up for that run it bodes well for tonight. Showed a real sign of speed and determination to get the win and this race is no harder than that one so expect her to feature prominently.

3 Caught The Eye
Caught the eye and the stopwatch fresh up did Caught The Eye (#3). Really impressive effort coming wide on the home bend to finish in third behind a couple of smart ones. Better for that. Just needs to get the stand right tonight which was well managed in trial. Steps away and hard to beat.
