New Plymouth Race 1
2 Freebelle

TIP OF THE DAY
Freebelle (#2) finds herself superbly placed as a last-start R65 winner in a restricted maiden. Craig Grylls takes over at her home track, and the step up to 1800m should hold no fears. She clearly looks the one to beat.

New Plymouth Race 2
4 Turn It Up

Turn It Up (#4) has predominantly been kept away from rain-affected tracks to date, but her trials suggest she'll cope if conditions remain testing. Her recent second on the synthetic was sound, and she maps for a soft run just behind the leaders. Looks a strong chance in a moderate lineup.

New Plymouth Race 3
5 Ma Te Wa

Ma Te Wa (#5) has been dominant in two runs this campaign and now gets Craig Grylls back aboard. Dropping back to 1200m should pose no issue given this race maps to have a genuine tempo. Looks a progressive type who can continue on his winning way.

New Plymouth Race 4
4 Boy

Boy (#4) steps up from maiden grade to take on race winners in this MAAT contest, but his first-up run had plenty of merit and he looks set to improve again. The blinkers go on for the first time, which is a notable gear change from this stable, and he drops to just 53kg with the claim. In an even field, he looks to be a great 1×3 play.

New Plymouth Race 5
6 Five Bells

Five Bells (#6) was very brave last start after bombing the start and doing plenty of mid-race work. She steps up to 1600m third-up and looks well suited back to R65 grade. Not the worst at a price in an open race.

New Plymouth Race 6
7 Belles Beau

Belles Beau (#7) was rolled as a short-priced favourite last start, but a slow tempo may have undone him there. He should appreciate a more genuine tempo here and drops to the minimum with 53kg. Drawn wide but that may be advantageous late in the day. Capable of bouncing back.

New Plymouth Race 7
3 Catherinenz

Catherinenz (#3) never looked happy in the going first-up at Trentham but will strip fitter for the run. Craig Grylls takes the reins, and the wide gate could be a plus by this stage of the day. Can improve sharply on what she showed fresh.
