Avondale Race 1
3 Zac Flash
Zac Flash (#3) has been racing over the steeples but his prior effort in a maiden highweight on the flat was encouraging. His stamina and proven ability to carry weight will be key here on a testing track. Worth keeping safe in what looks a modest field.
Avondale Race 2
1 Miss Understood
TIP OF THE DAY
Miss Understood (#1) resumes here following an impressive trial win earlier this month. Michael McNab was aboard for the trial and sticks for raceday. Expect her to roll forward from the wide gate and take plenty of running down. Looks hard to beat.
Avondale Race 3
12 Unwritten
Unwritten (#12) is a 3yo Telperion filly making her debut for the Donna Logan stable. She looked smart winning her trial here on a Heavy track last month and gets a soft draw with Vinnie Colgan in the saddle. This looks an even race, and a bold showing on debut would be no surprise.
Avondale Race 4
2 Notabadbergs
Notabadbergs (#2) produced a strong first-up effort for 2nd at Ruakaka where he found the line well over 1200m. He'll strip fitter for that run and the extra 200m looks a big plus. With natural improvement, he looks the one they have to beat.
Avondale Race 5
12 Blondie
Blondie (#12) comes off a pair of disappointing efforts, but she typically handles Heavy tracks and drops to just 54kg after Yuga Okubo's claim. This is a very moderate R60 field and she has more upside than most at her best. Worth a look at odds.
Avondale Race 6
7 King William
King William (#7) showed promise on debut here on a Heavy10 when finishing 3rd but has failed to fire since, noting that he debuted back in 2023. His two efforts this prep at Ellerslie haven't shown much, but the return to a Heavy track could be the key. Tricky race, but happy to have a small speculative each way play at the price.
Avondale Race 7
2 Constanza
Constanza (#2) was sound on debut for 4th at Te Aroha, and while well beaten, he did find the line nicely once balanced. The rise to 1600m looks ideal and the blinkers now go on. In a race lacking depth, he's capable of improving sharply.
Avondale Race 8
1 Fastdeeldun
Fastdeeldun (#1) bolted in last start at Matamata when the blinkers went on and gets a very similar setup again here. Heavy10, mile, and a wide draw that will likely be advantageous late in the day all suit. Looks hard to beat with a repeat of his last effort.
