Cambridge Harness Picks - Tuesday, 17 September

Cambridge Synthetic Race 1
5 Golden

Golden's recent trial win here would suggest she has returned in good order, with her trial win being the fastest of 3x 1300m trials on the day, whilst doing it all under her own steam. The Ramsey/Ritchie team trialled this mare over 1300m leading into her debut over 1600m, which saw her run a career peak that day. She gets a similar setup here first-up over 1550m and can make her a resuming run a winning one.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 2
1 Stonybreck

Stonybreck won nicely first-up against a much stronger field than what he meets here. He should only be improved for that run and the step up to 1550m suits. I wouldn't be surprised if the $1.70 at publish looked significant overs, as he's SP'd at $1.20 and $1.50 in similar fields to this on the synthetic previously.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 3
7 Urlar

Urlar's exposed form has been moderate at best behind some very talented types. That being said, this isn't the strongest maiden field for her resuming run. The recent trial here was handy enough, where she showed early speed and went to the line without being asked for a supreme effort. I'm hoping the engagement of Kelly Myers is suggesting that they'll be positive from the wider gate (9), if they do go forward she can give a sight at odds.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 4
1 Alfriston

Whilst Alfriston is yet to recapture his very best form from his 3yo season, I don't think he'll need to in order to win this race. He gets a very favourable setup, he maps to lead from the inside gate under Sam Spratt, and it looks very possible she could dictate affairs to her liking. The blinkers also now go back on and I think we can expect a much better showing than his past couple of starts.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 5
9 Cantatrice
Tip of The Day

Cantatrice's debut was one to forget, she had excuses that day and didn't look all that comfortable in the going. Her recent trial win here with the blinkers on was excellent, running the 2nd fastest time of the day, fractionally behind Luberon. I think she'll be able to cross this field from the wide gate, or alternatively sit outside leader without working too hard. She looks a smart filly and I'll be taking the $1.80 available at publish.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 6
6 Sesimbra

Sesimbra's latest trial was much better than I think this market is giving her credit for. After being restrained early, she was carted back even further and made up significant ground over the last 400m to only be beaten 2L in good time. Despite this being a small field, I think they'll be running this at a genuine tempo, which should give Sesimbra every chance to be finishing over the top.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 7
5 Sonofabutcher

I would consider this R65 2000m contest a low confidence betting race to close proceedings at Cambridge. Since his respectable resuming run at Ruakaka, Sonofabutcher has been very plain his past couple. His two career runs here on the synthetic have been good enough to suggest returning to this surface could be beneficial for him. There looks to be an abundance of early speed engaged here, which should aid him in trying to swoop over the top of this field.
