Race 1
4 Havarti

Nice even race for the first on the day at Whanganui and you can make a case for half a dozen to be legitimate winning chances. Havarti is a much-improved horse on what we have seen in the past couple of preparations where he did everything at a million miles an hour. This preparation has seen him running on speed without over racing and in his last start in a strong field he was unlucky not to finish closer after being held up for a run. He maps very well tomorrow in career best form, and he looks like a major player.
Selections: 4-6-1-10

Race 2
2 Wewillrock

He is coming to hand well and comes back in grade for today's assignment after a decent second to the talented Imwonderfultonight. He generally gets better further into his preparation and if they intend going back to Australia you would expect him to be winning today even with 60kg. There is a lot of speed in the race so it will be interesting to see what they do from the ace draw but I'm expecting him to be winning today with a clear run.
Selections: 2-8-5-9

Race 3
5 Fashion Icon

She looked a decent talent last preparation and returned in good style at Trentham without a lot of luck. Her sectional was very strong, and she will love the step up in trip from a gate that should see her close enough in a small field. I have a lot of respect for Lantern Way although disappointing last start but with the tongue tie applied, I expect a better performance. Also, Cannon Hill and Up the Anti are well above average.
Selections: 5-1-2-3

Race 4
2 Trav

He is really starting to mature into a decent galloper after a period of time when he had been disappointing and as he looks like as a 5yo he can be in some decent races. His last three starts have all been full of merit over ground and with a little bit of luck he could have won more than one of them. From the ace draw he should be able find a spot that suits and he's in a race that looks weaker than recent opposition, He looks great value at $6 and you generally have success here if you back the locals.
Selections: 2-1-5-3

Race 5
4 Prince Alby

I am willing to forgive his last start when the race was run against those who settled back in the pack, and I was happy with the way he worked home. He has long been a horse that Kelvin has had a lot of time for, and I expect him to travel North in the Spring and Summer to take on major events. He darwn well to position closer to the speed than last start and he's nicely weighted with the two kilo claim which should see a return to form. Aljay would win if he's a 100% fit, but I am sure there are bigger fish to fry and Titled and Orlov both have been racing well.
Selections: 4-2-7-8

Race 6
2 King Of Hearts

I have long been a fan of this horse and his record could have been so much better with a touch of luck. I was more than happy with his fresh up run on a track that didn't suit him with rain falling on the day. He is a winner second up and in a smaller field he should have no traffic troubles from a wide draw. He has been brilliant in his three wins, but he tends at times to have a bad day. If it's a good day Saturday I'm sure he has the ability to win this.
Selections: 2-7-10-6

Race 7
8 Princess Elly

Anyone who was watching this horse's fresh up effort would have seen how unlucky she was not to win. Her win at Otaki was a dominant performance and she generally improves second up. There is enough early speed in this race that Lily should be able to find a slot one off and I really expect her to run Top2. The Scunner is a horse to follow, and Bourbon Falls is gettiing close to peak and well capable in a race like this.
Selections: 8-1-3-7

Race 8
7 Platinum Generation

I really liked this horses victory at Tauherenikau two starts ago and you can forgive him up in grade last start over distance when caught wide. He steps back to the 1600m today which looks of no concern with Riddell riding today. If the best of Danjuro turned up, then he would be tough to beat, and My Boy Zac and Perfect Test are better than 65 grade horses.
Selections: 7-5-4-9

Best Bets: 2 Wewillrock (Race 2) and 8 Princess Elly (Race 7)
Value: 4 Havarti (Race 1) and 2 Trav (Race 4)
