King Of Light is already a pioneer product in the stud career of Earthlight and the Perth gelding gets the chance to enhance his status this weekend.

The three-year-old son of the Darley stallion is odds-on favourite for the $500,000 WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot.

Victory would make King Of Light the first Group 2 winner for the stallion, a son of Shamardal, who shuttled to Australia for three seasons – 2021 to 2023.

Earthlight's biggest success to date as a stallion came via Daylight's win in the Group 3 Prix De Cabourg (1200m) at Deauville in France and King Of Light is one of two Stakes winners in Australia, along with Listed Without Fear Stakes (1050m) winner Petit Artiste.

King Of Light, who is unbeaten in four starts, is a dual winner at Listed level, in the Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and Fairetha Stakes (1400m).

He owns a peak Timeform rating of 109+, which is a way off the highest-rated three-year-olds of the season – 124-rater Tentyris owns that honour thanks to his Coolmore Stud Stakes win – but 109 is a high number for a horse with just four starts to his name yet to race at Group level.

That's the same figure that Daylight was awarded for her win the Prix De Cabourg – a race her sire also won – while she ran to 110 in her second placing in the Group 3 Prix De Meautry (1200m) at Deauville in August.

Earthlight, who won seven of nine starts and was a dual Group 1 winner at two, hasn't been back to Australia since 2023, a season that saw him produce 34 live foals off a fee of $16,500.

He produced 45 foals from his 2022 coverings, 15 of whom have been named, while King Of Light is among 63 live foals from his maiden Aussie crop, which came off a $22,000 service fee.

King Of Light is out of the Dalghar mare Queen's Parade who is a half-sister to Spirit Bird, who finished second in the 2015 WA Guineas.

Winner of that event was Man Booker, who is the lone WA Guineas winner for Danny Morton.
