Mr Brightside added another chapter to his remarkable career with a historic third-straight win in last Saturday's $750,000 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m).

Not only did the eight-year-old become the first male horse, and fifth overall, to win the same Flemington Group 1 race three times, he joined the select group of horses to have won 10 times at the highest level.

He moved alongside Via Sistina, who achieved the feat three weeks earlier in the Winx Stakes, among the 14 horses who have been trained in Australia or New Zealand that have won 10 times at Group 1 level.

The son of Bullbars also became the second member of his family to add his name to the honour roll of the race that was formerly known as the Craiglee Stakes.

Sovereign Red, the 1981 Craiglee winner, features on the pedigree page of Mr Brightside, who is out of the Tavistock mare Lilahjay.

Lilahjay's dam is Keepable, whose mother Delia's Choice is a sister to Sovereign Red.

Both by Sir Tristram, they are Taiona, a former dual New Zealand Broodmare of the Year.

Sovereign Red's Craiglee Stakes win came when it carried Group 2 status, but he also won six times at the highest level.

He won the Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby in the spring of 1980, later that year won the Australian Derby and Western Mail Classic (now Northerly Stakes) in Perth, before winning the Doomben 10,000 and Underwood Stakes in 1981.

Remarkably, he's still not Taiona's most famous product with that daughter of Sovereign Edition also the dam of Gurner's Lane, the 1982 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup champion.

Taiona's other Group 1 winner was Trichelle, the 1985 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner, while Listed winner Queen's Choice was her fourth Black Type product.

Another of Taiona's daughters is Scarlet Robin, the granddam of dual Group 1 winner Purple, and another is Her Dynasty, who features in the family tree of another modern-day star.

Her Dynasty's daughter Royal Rhythm is the dam of Missy Moo, who is responsible for Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising, odds-on favourite for this year's The Everest.
