Chris Scholtz reviews barrier trials at Newcastle (October 9), Rosehill (October 13) and Warwick Farm (October 17).
WARWICK FARM October 17
Inside Grass; Good 4
14 Heats – 3 x 1200m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 4 x 805m (2 Open; 2 2YO); 4 x 801m (4 Maiden); 3 x 798m (3 Maiden)
Expect this session to produce some handy maiden winners.
CASSEROUSSE (Joe Pride): Godolphin filly had only one start last season and has trialled up nicely in two outings for her new trainer. Improved on her second placing in her resuming trial to win this 801m heat in fast time (46.95; 33.28), coming off the back of the leader at the 350m and sprinting to the line under a soft ride for a dominant win.
CHISOLM (Mick Price/Michael Kent): I Am Invincible filly was placed in her two interstate starts behind classy winners in Adelaide and Melbourne last season and showed here she has the obvious talent to win races. Pulled her way to an easy four lengths lead after 200m and was hard held through her 801m heat to win with plenty in hand (47.05; 33.64).
JARRITO (Bjorn Baker): Another I Am Invincible filly who was placed at Warwick Farm on debut in June. Looked a readymade winner winning her 798m heat in slick time (46.84; 33.53), being ridden with no urgency to settle third before splitting the leaders turning form home and cruising to a strong win under a cold ride.
MOTHER GOOSE (Gary Portelli): Lonhro mare won a maiden for Godolphin last season and looks primed to resume for her new trainer after an impressive win in the fastest heat over 805m (47.02; 32.99). Easily took up the running after 100m and was always working well within herself to maintain her advantage to the line.

Inside Grass; Good 4
12 Heats – 3 x 1030m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 9 x 900m (3 Open; 2 2YO; 4 Maiden)
Exciting 3YO BEIWACHT went through the motions to win his open heat over 1030m.
He was quickly on the bunny and wasn't under pressure to maintain his advantage to the line, holding a good effort from the G1 winner STEFI MAGNETICA in the quickest of the three heats over the distance (61.68; 34.54).

The 2YO ranks have been looking a bit thin but nice trials from the Chris Waller stablemates DEFENSEMEN and WHITEHALL point to some good performances when they are produced. DEFENSEMEN was a strong winner of his 900m heat (55.65; 35.39) and WHITEHALL took the eye with his late work to finish second in his 900m heat (55.56; 34.91).
NINETTE (Hawkes Racing): This lightly raced Zoustar mare was spelled after winning her second start at Wyong in May. Looks set to go on with it this season after cruising to an impressive win by 3.5 lengths in easily the fastest 900m heat (52.67; 33.38)
