TRIAL POINTERS
RANDWICK September 26: SWIFT LEGEND was unplaced in his first three starts last season but improvement is imminent judging by his impressive work to win his 1045m heat in good time (62.95; 34.46). A runaway leader was six lengths clear at the 200m before he went through his gears to make up the margin under a soft ride.
NEWCASTLE September 24: CLOUDLAND's winter form was good and he's had a nice freshen for a spring campaign. Worked strongly through his 800m trial winning with plenty in reserve (49.04; 33.70).
ROSEHILL September 23: Everest bound G1 winner JIMMYSSTAR went about his business in confident style with a classy heat win. He's getting a methodical build up to the The Everest with his soft win his 1030m heat (62.15; 34.60) a lovely fit at this stage of his prep. Had no trouble leading and while the time wasn't the quickest he did it easily and looked in top order running through the line 1.2 lengths clear. It will be no shock to see Wooton Basset colt PROVIDENCE improve sharply on his two recent Group starts on soft tracks. He's a great type and his work in his 1030m heat was first class, warming nicely over the last 100m under a quiet ride with no intent to figure in the finish. Watch for him to improve over more ground on a good track.
RANDWICK 2YO TRIALS September 22: Just nine heats and 60 runners at the annual trials for unraced 2YOs with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott dominating with six winners. Only three winners went under 50 seconds for the 850m with the overall quality down on recent years. Speed wins 2YO races with EVICTION NOTICE (49.53; 33.19) showing brilliant natural pace to run away with his heat by almost eight lengths. His stablemate I'M YA HUCKLEBERRY (49.54; 33.28) was another of the better winners among the colts.
RANDWICK September 16: Smart Harry Angel 4YO ZEALOUSLY must be followed after winning his first trial since June, working better than the G1 star OVERPASS to win the fastest 740m heat (43.50; 33.19) under a soft ride.
HAWKESBURY September 15: Impressed by the effort of Ole Kirk filly GRAND CAROUSEL to finish second to her stablemate ROSE OF FENWAY in their 1000m maiden heat (60.21; 34.37). She had only one start last season and should be an improver through her coming campaign.
ROSEHILL September 9: The racy maiden HAYEK recorded the fastest 900m heat win (54.07; 34.85) but was tiring late. Other notable 900m heat winners included IMPERIAL FORCE (54.17; 34.02) while runners to take the eye with their late work included ISTOLEA MERC and LET'S FLY.
WYONG September 8: Too Darn Hot colt RIPLEY was placed in both city starts last season and looks ready to train on as a 3YO after an impressive second in his1000m heat (59.50; 35.09). Had plenty to offer coming from well off the pace with good work over the last 200m.
RANDWICK September 2: Promising maiden PERFECT APPLE is poised to make his mark after an impressive win his 740m heat (44.17; 34.01), ridden with no urgency to settle at the rear before surging between runners over the last 300m and running away under a soft ride. Contested a very strong maiden at Canterbury in his only start in June and will improve off that.
