Selections and best bets from Chris Scholtz for the 7 Stakes meeting at Randwick plus Trial Watch and Blackbook runners.
RANDWICK September 20
Best Bets
RACE 3 – (2) DISNECK: He's been screaming for a good track after two luckless starts on soft ground since resuming. No doubt he's going well enough as he was full of running when badly held up over the last 200m in his latest outing over 1200m at Rosehill where he would have gone close with a clear crack. Ticks all the right boxes as he he's back on the dry at Randwick where he has won three times over this distance and gets a big riding switch with James McDonald on board for the first time.
RACE 8 – (11) FANGIRL: There's no place like Randwick for this mare with the return to her favourite track on a dry deck certain to see her improve on her resuming fourth in the G1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield where she looked uncomfortable from start to finish. Her eight wins at Randwick include four over the mile course, this race last year among them, and expect her classy turn of foot to come to the fore on the good surface.
RACE 9 – (1) BRIASA: A ripper prelude to The Everest with this big grey primed to perform first-up after two excellent trial wins. Locks horns again with Private Harry after coming from last to finish fourth to that unbeaten sprinter in the G1 Galaxy over this distance at Rosehill in the autumn before his classy win over 1200m at this course in the G1 TJ Smith. He's been a lot sharper leading easily in his trials and expect to see him get a positive ride from his inside gate that will have him poised on the back of the leaders.

TRIAL POINTERS
ROSEHILL September 9: Crack sprinter BRIASA asserted his class with a workout that has him firmly on track to the $20 million Everest next month. The big grey, with the benefit of his first up trial win at Canterbury on August 16 behind him, jumped best and comfortably pulled his way to a three lengths lead after 400m. Tyler Schiller allowed him to track wide as he easily maintained his advantage to the finish (59.90; 33.28) under a tight hold. BRIASA has won seven of his 10 starts and might just be the best of our local sprinters this spring. Gosford Guineas winner DANCE TO THE BOOM was a standout winner of the fastest 1030m heat (61.73; 34.30), unleashing an impressive sprint to come from six lengths off the lead at 500m and win running away by 4.5 lengths untouched. Wide on the turn, her sectionals over the last 400m are a strong platform for her chances in coming fillies races. In the 900m heats runners to take the eye with their late work included MILES OF GLORY and PERFUMIST.
WYONG September 8: In the open 1200m heat (71.57; 35.51) the highly rated import ELAMAZ tracked three wide for the last 800m and was OK finishing fourth but I would have liked to have seen him finish off with more zest. Maiden trials included the fastest 845m heat winner RIGA (49.20; 34.82).
RANDWICK September 2: G1 winner JOLIESTAR looks ready for a bold first-up performance after trialling nicely in a strong open heat over 1050m (64.39; 34.39), where she was unextended to finish third.
ROSEHILL August 28: Crack sprinter PRIVATE HARRY posted the fastest win in the seven 1030m heats (61.63; 34.34), doing it easily to hold an advantage from start to finish under a hold. In the 900m trials COASTWATCH was an easy winner of a deep heat in slow time (56.66; 35.37). In the 900m maiden heats a trial that commanded attention was the effort by LA NINA.
HAWKESBURY August 25: Group horses had the use of the course proper for two trials. In Heat 2 (800m) JEDIBEEL put in his best work over the closing stages. The open trials over 1250m on the inside grass also saw some class acts go through their paces, not the least being the Waterhouse/Bott import ELAMAZ in the faster of two heats (75.63; 33.92). He made an impression in his first trial since his McKell Cup win in June, sustaining strong work from last and going to the line under a soft ride. Maiden runners to impress included MILES OF GLORY.
WARWICK FARM August 22: The racy FINE WINE, an unraced Snitzel filly having her third trial, showed natural short course speed to win the fastest 740m heat by almost six lengths (43.22; 32.91).
CANTERBURY August 18: In Heat 3 (900m) for the Group horses top class grey BRIASA showed he is back better than ever, cruising through this heat for a soft win in faster time than the previous trial (56.22; 35.99) in an effort that is certain to improve his fitness.
GOSFORD August 18: Exciting sprinter PRIVATE HARRY did all that was needed for a soft win in his 1000m heat (60.52; 35.34) in his first trial since his G1 Galaxy win in March. Had more than four lengths to spare at the finish under the easiest of rides while posting the quickest time in the six 1000m heats.
WARWICK FARM August 8: In his 900m heat (55.05; 35.71) quality sprinter JEDIBEEL worked within well himself.
