RANDWICK September 2

Randwick A Grass; Soft 7

12 Heats – 9 x 1050m (5 Open; 4 Maiden); 3 x 740m (1 Open; 2 C1/Maiden)

More Group horses on display while there was plenty of depth in the maiden heats.

G1 winners JOLIESTAR and STEFI MAGNETICA looks ready for bold first-up performances after trialling nicely behind AIRMAN in a strong open heat over 1050m (64.39; 34.39). AIRMAN sprinted strongly to the line after tracking the leader while JOLIESTAR was unextended to finish third. STEFI MAGNETICA impressed with her easy work for fourth after covering more ground than JOLIESTAR.

Top class filly TEMPTED made a pleasing return in her first trial for her new trainer Ciaron Maher, never coming off the bit to finish an easy second in the 1050m heat won by SYDNEY BOWLER (64.30; 34.37). FORTUNE also trialled strongly while the horse to watch out of this heat is the promising SAN GIOVANNI.

SAN GIOVANNI (Michael Freedman): First trial for this lightly raced 3YO since he won his first two provincial starts in July. Travelled widest from the start but was always under a good hold and worked to the line equally as well as the much better performed Group horses in his 1050m heat. Has a bright future.

In the 740m heats the winners SANDPAPER and PERFECT APPLE impressed with classy wins.

SANDPAPER (Bjorn Baker): Loved the way this quality performer won his first trial since his trip to Queensland in May, jumping easily into the lead from the start of his 740m heat and travelling well within himself to hold an advantage from start to finish (44.61; 34.37). Sure sign he is in good form to resume. Nice work behind him from GETAFIX and ENRICHED.

PERFECT APPLE (John O'Shea/Tom Charlton): Promising maiden is poised to make his mark after an impressive win his 740m heat (44.17; 34.01), Ridden with no urgency to settle at the rear before surging between runners over the last 300m and running away under a soft ride. Contested a very strong maiden at Canterbury in his only start in June and will improve off that.

Other maidens looking primed for good showings include the fast 1050m heat winner SHANGRI LA BOY (63.61; 34.89), FEDERALIST, MASTER OF THE AIR, AVENUE MONTAIGNE and NITRO.
