TRIAL POINTERS
ROSEHILL July 29: Ex James Cummings-trained colt BURMA STAR made a big impression in his first trial for his new trainer Chris Waller, working home under a big hold after a wide run for a close third in his 900m heat (55./98; 35.58). He showed good talent in his three 2YO starts and with three trials behind him since April expect Waller will get the best out of him. Other rising 3YOs worthy of attention after good trials included strong closing work by PORTOFINO in his heat. THEBLADE, a lightly raced rising 4YO, made a strong start to his prep in his first trial since February, working keenly from start to finish for a soft win by 3.5 lengths in his 900m heat (54.39; 33.96) with the feature being his quick closing sectionals. Sure to be well placed by his astute stable.
WARWICK FARM July 25: Good work by Hello Youmzain colt STORMLAND to win his 812m heat with style, tracking through on the inside from midfield and having plenty up his sleeve through the line. Looks set to train on from the promise he showed when he won his debut in March before a forgive run in stakes company. Other 2YOs to impress included the heat winner OUTER BANKS. In the black type heat over 1000m ENCAP took the trail and railed through when the leader shifted wide. Sprinted home for a soft win (59.67; 34.61) with POINT TO SHOOT holding his ground to finish third. In the 900m heat for the Group horses fast mare BONITA QUEEN ran away with the trial, leading by a big space on the turn and doing it easily to the line.
GOSFORD July 23: It was a good session for the Lees stable with the import ADELAIDE RIVER and smart sprinter BRUDENELL showing their class with easy wins in their heats. ADELAIDE RIVER tracked up behind the leaders and went home nicely to beat SALT LAKE CITY in his 1200m heat 72.58; 35.96) while BRUDENELL rounded up the leaders on the turn in his 1000m heat (59.58; 35.00) and cruised away for a soft win by almost three lengths.
RANDWICK July 22: Previously noted trial stars to post strong performances in the 2YO heats included INIESTA and ARTISTIC VENTURE.
ROSEHILL July 15: SAVVY HALLIE dictated her 900m heat from the front in slow time (56.36; 35.76). The five 2YO heats over 900m will be the source of numerous winners. The eye catchers included STORMLAND.
RANDWICK July 11: There were numerous good trials in the 2YO heats including COBRA CLUB and DECORUM.
WYONG June 16: ADELAIDE RIVER and DALMANNDI, a pair of imported stayers in the Lees stable, trialled with purpose and look set to improve on what they have displayed to date in their limited Australian careers. DALMANNDI followed up with a strong trial win at Newcastle on July 9 that will have him ready to perform.
ROSEHILL December 23: The 2YO heats over 900m saw a smart win by Farnan colt INIESTA (54.46; 34.93). Still unraced, he has consistently performed well winning two of his four subsequent trials including the latest at Randwick on July 22.
