Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney trials at Rosehill on July 29.
ROSEHILL July 29
16 Heats – Soft 5/6
Course Proper (Soft 5) - 3 Heats: 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 2 x 900m (Group/Listed)
Inside Grass (Soft 6) – 13 Heats: 3 x 1030m (1 Open; 2 2 &3YO); 10 x 900m (2 Open; 1 3YO; 6 2YO; 1 Maiden)
A good mix of promising trials from exposed runners and rising three-year-olds.
BURMA STAR (Chris Waller): Ex James Cummings-trained colt made a big impression in his first trial for his new trainer, working home under a big hold after a wide run for a close third in his 900m heat (55./98; 35.58). He showed good talent in his three 2YO starts and with three trials behind him since April expect Waller will get the best out of him.
PERFUMIST (Bjorn Baker): Classy El Roca filly was a big winner of the 1000m trial for Group horses (61.17; 34.01), clearing out to score by more than nine lengths in her second trial after an earlier win at Rosehill on July 15. Looks set to build on an already impressive record.
"This is going to be an exhibition."

THEBLADE (Hawkes Racing): Lightly raced rising 4YO made a strong start to his prep in his first trial since February, working keenly from start to finish for a soft win by 3.5 lengths in his 900m heat (54.39; 33.96) with the feature being his quick closing sectionals. Sure to be well placed by his astute stable.
The 900m heats for the Group horses were won by the leaders SPRING LEE (55.84; 35.00) and LINDERMANN (54.89; 34.10). Good work in these trials from the big mare COMMEMORATIVE and NORTH ENGLAND.

POLYGLOT (62.79; 35.56), another Godolphin runner now with Michael Freedman, and TUSCANY (62.48; 35.26) did all that was required to win their 1030m heats on the inside grass in good style.
Free running PASSEGGIATA posted the quickest time in the 900m heats (53.68; 34.25) with the work of AIRMAN and STILL ALICE taking the eye with their closing work behind her.
The fastest winner of the six 2YO heats over 900m was WHATALEGACY (54.60; 34.30), being the only juvenile winner to go under 55 seconds. The trial that made the best impression in this heat was the closing second by the talented SKYHOOK.
Other rising 3YOs worthy of attention after their good trials included the heat winner OHOPE (55.52; 35.41) and strong closing work by PELEUS, PORTOFINO, PLEASURE QUEEN and HELLO CAPTAIN in their heats.
