Racing under lights at Launceston on Wednesday night and thanks to Tasracing, here's your race-by-race rundown.
You can catch all the racing action from Launceston and around Tasmania on demand right here from Tasracing.
RACE 1
2-year-old debutantes and the betting moves will be instructive. ARISTOPOLOS (1) brings a 6L trial win from Hobart and has the rail to guide him around. Has a high striking hoop aboard and should be tough to roll. MOMENTSLIKETHESE (7) showed enough in her Hobart trial to suggest she can feature. The premier jockey takes the mount. BRUTAL EMPIRE (2) has had three trials and won the latest easily at Longford. Loses the rider to Aristopolos, and Pires is engaged. TOO POETIC (9) and PRECIOUS ILLUSION (8) have also trialled well. The former won hers but has to manage the outside gate. She may be good enough regardless.
Suggested Bet: Aristopolos on what we've seen.
RACE 2
Tricky and closely monitor the betting moves. On what we've seen, Vabuiagi (14) looks the one to beat. Followed a Hobart trial win with a half-length defeat here on debut over 1000m. She will carry just 52kg with the in-form apprentice aboard. Megalita (6) finished it off well enough here on debut, and the extra metres are sure to suit. Has a wide gate to contend with but expect him to hit the line hard. The speedy SH'BOURNE RISING (11) debuts and creates plenty of interest with Newitt booked. Missed a nose in her latest trial and maps for the run of the race. Up To Tori (13) resumed at Hobart over 1200m and was nabbed late after leading. Has to skip over from an awkward gate, but with the extra fitness, she can give a big sight. The betting will be key. Bad Alibi (12) raced as the favourite here second-up and just missed. Lugs just 52kg with the 3kg claimer engaged, but the barrier is tricky.
Suggested Bet: Vabuiagi appeals most.
RACE 3
Rousing Levi (6) stepped up to this distance at Hobart, beaten 1.6L. It was a good effort, and he should be presented at his peak. Has a handy 2kg claim today and is ready to win. Northern Child (5) strips fitter for two close-up efforts at Hobart over 1200m. Has the outside gate, but the step-up to the mile is sure to suit. He will be finishing hard. Striding Bay (4) has been plainer at Hobart his last two but just missed here prior over this distance. Gets a gear chance, and Newitt rides from an inside gate. On song, he'd be hard to beat. Lady Be Cool (11) is in good hands and up to a mile quick improvement wouldn't surprise. Timmie Lad (8) did nothing last time after a promising debut over 1400m at the track. Has the inside gate and may be worth another chance.
Suggested Bet: Going with Rousing Levi.
RACE 4
Corsa Veloce (5) is third-up and ready to fire, stepping up to a mile. Missed a lip here last time over 1400m, and she has plenty up her sleeve. It's hard to risk the potent Byrne Burke-Trinder linkage. Beneficiary (1) led from the 13 barrier when belting the Maidens by 5L here on debut over 1400m. He couldn't have been more impressive and has a handy 2kg claim today. Building on that effort, he's feared at 1600m. Zanzi (4) was on speed and improved sharply, winning her Maiden by 2.3L here over 1400m. A talented 3kg claimer stays aboard, and the extra 200m looks within her scope. Thin Red Line (11) dropped out at Hobart last time, but his two prior efforts here would have him right in the finish. Uses the rail, and the premier jockey rides for the first time.
Suggested Bet: Siding with Corsa Veloce.
RACE 5
A good little race. Crack The Shutters (2) delivered the hat-trick here in dominant fashion and is on an upward spiral. The step up to 1400m should suit admirably, and she's well placed to deliver again. Daytona Diva (6) resumed further improved, beaten 1L here and then was heavily bet when belting the CL1 graders at Hobart by 3L. She's heading in the right direction, and stripping fitter again is sure to make the finish. Mazzini (1) is also displaying plenty of promise. Was plainer behind the top selection last time, when fractious at the start, and has won a trial since. Impressed backed off the map first-up and is likely to control the race from the inside barrier. Wolf Junior (3) is in the mix, building on his first-up Maiden win.
Suggested Bet: Crack The Shutters rates to win again.
RACE 6
Lady Galadriel (2) is third-up and ready to win. Showed a stack of promise here initial campaign and can find those peaks today. Maps for a soft run, and she's well placed with the 3kg claim. Fluffy's Girl (7) led first up, just beating Lady Galadriel home. Presents fitter again and carries just 51.5 kg (again) with the claim. May control the race and take pegging back. Simply Deep (3) resumes and his five starts have all been on the Devonport synthetic. He's displayed plenty of ability and won a recent trial on turf. Proven fresh and has Bingley's 2kg claim. Wary. Ohshe'Strouble (5) won the Lady Galadriel race, spiking her figures. Has been giving away starts, but the 2kg claim is handy, and she can't be ruled out.
Suggested Bet: Backing Lady Galadriel, who has plenty to give.
RACE 7 - RACING AND SPORTS BEST BET
Durazzo (5) is the clear top pick in the Conquering Stakes. Has placed 2/3 in Stakes grade and missed a whisker the other. Has been heavily bet and sharp both starts this preparation, and the mile suits. Maps to get every chance. Tougher sorting out the remainder. Alvarinho (12) won a decent race first-up and then was beaten 2L behind the above in the stronger Newmarket. She's a quinella hope with the extra fitness. Bank Maur (1) is a Group 2 winning Queenslander in the Laming yard, and he's prepared for this with a first-up hit-out in the Cranbourne Cup over a mile. Wasn't too far away in the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich three back, and that effort would have him in the finish. Has an awkward gate, but Newitt's booking suggests he's pleasing. First Accused (2) resumed in the Durazzo race and looked a run short. Proved second-up and the veteran is a 3x Stakes winner. In the mix.
Suggested Bet: Keen on Durazzo.
RACE 8
An open contest. Elegantly Written (7) had been threatening before delivering the win here at 60 level over this distance. The low gate plays to her advantage in this contest, and Newitt is a key jockey booking, replacing the 2kg apprentice. Will get every chance to repeat the dose. The Longest Yard (5) rates strongly on the back of his deserved CL4 win here over 1400m. He's won at the mile, but the negative for him is the outside barrier. He's capable of winning, all the same. Lovin' Bev (2) is free running and brings a heavily bet win in this grade at the track/trip. Gets in well again with the 3kg claim, and going back-to-back isn't out of the question. Tuskegee (6) wasn't beaten far in the same race and always puts in.
Suggested Bet: Leaning to Elegantly Written.
RACE 9
Tricky. Bayside (2) is lightly raced, and this is winnable if he's presented on song. His recent trial placing suggests he will be, and he won his only fresh outing. Impressed at Hobart when last seen, and the 2kg claimer can use the inside barrier to advantage. Stars In The Night (3) was straight back into the winner's stall, leading and winning a 60 this track/trip. With the 3kg claim, she's well-placed to repeat. Within Sight (5) was plain at Hobart, but his CL2 win here prior was good. Draws low today and will get every chance to bounce. Warica (4) mixes the form but has the ability. Carries 3kg less today, and the 1200m may suit better.
Suggested Bet: Bayside if the money comes.
