Best Bets for H.G. Bolton Sprint Day at Bunbury.

Racing continues in the west with H.G. Bolton Sprint Day at Bunbury, with racing set to resume at Belmont next month.

The track at Bunbury is rated a Soft 6 as of Thursday morning, with the rail out 5m and with some showers hanging about leading into the weekend.

The feature of the day is an interesting race, with Toropa the market leader (at the time of writing) after a good effort in the Beaufine Stakes down the Pinjarra straight last start. She was off a short freshen there and is expected to be better for that run out in trip. While she rates highly, the wide draw may be her issue, though her main danger Wind And The Lion comes off an unusual campaign.

The blinkers went on last start as he rose to the mile last start in the Belmont Guineas and probably didn't see out the journey. Back to 1200m where he's been very effective previously is a big tick and Pike riding is also a good push for his chances, as he rode Toropa at her last start.

Away from those two, Rockin' Rupert comes in off a big trial victory, but he didn't beat a lot in that outing. He progressed well last campaign however and he's a chance if he can return in similar form.

Thinking PLATINUM SHOT represents some value at the early price off a big last start win at Northam.

She turned in a strong figure there, gunning down her rivals and winning comfortably in the end. She'll be back in the run from the barrier, which is the big issue, though with a full field engaged a good tempo should be in store. She rates highly on that latest effort and if she can replicate that effort in the same grade, Platinum Shot can get the job done again.

Also looking to play ART SESSION who gets the blinkers on for the first time in race five on the card.

He wasn't far away from the Beaufine winner Repossession three back and has gone to another level since then. He maps to get his chance up front with Chris Parnham replacing the 3kg apprentice, a good push for his chances. With the favourite Terratif first-up, he may be able to break him with his fitness and if the blinkers get that little bit extra out of him, he'll be very hard to catch.
