No black type racing in store for Adelaide this weekend but nevertheless a solid meeting has been assembled and there are winners to be found.
I'm siding with two Victorians to come and steal some money off the locals in hit-and-run missions, the first of which is the Maddie Raymond-trained Run Like Hell and it comes up as the bet365 best of the day (Race 5).
The Hellbent mare returned in great style first up at Donald when making a complete mess of her rivals and boasting a Racing and Sports rating of 90.
Electing to go back from a wide draw second the four-year-old didn't have much go her way in the run and showed great ticker to only miss by a nose at Geelong.
She now meets the horse that beat her better at the weights off the narrow defeat and gets a key booking in Jason Holder.
Run Like Hell is open to plenty of improvement third run in and just the fourth start of her career. I expect her to be making a return to the winners' circle on Saturday.
As for the best each way chance of the day we look to the proceeding race (Race 6) where I think La Caresse presents with plenty of value.
Admittedly on first glimpse, his four runs this campaign consisting of - 0q09 - doesn't scream a horse that warrants an each way wager, it's upon closer inspection of those runs, specifically the first two of the prep, that the Matt Laurie-trained six-year-old could be over the odds.
Despite finishing 12/16 first up at Flemington, the son of Duporth was only 2.8L away from the progressive winner Sigh - who then saluted again at a short quote in Listed company, before taking out the G3 Sir John Monash Stakes.
Second the six-year-old would eventually fall victim to the Wiremu Pinn weight claim calamity but did at the time produce a solid chase to the line when falling just shy of the placings at Mornington.
I'm happy to look past his recent two efforts, with the Caulfield run coming in a much tougher grade and the Moonee Valley effort a complete forgive after settling in an impossible position on a leaders' biased day of racing.
Blinkers go on first time in what looks a much more suitable assignment. I suspect this will have him sharpened and ready to explode.
