With the South Australian Racing carnival rapidly approaching, the day's action is spearheaded by the Listed Hills Railway Stakes in race eight, won last year by the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trainer All Banter before tackling the Group 1 Sangster the following month.
The Railway Stakes stands as a good stepping stone for carnival's sprinting hopefuls, with the winners dreaming of Goodwood/Sangster success.
A horse that shares that dream is Home Rule and stands as this week's best bet.
Hailing from the emerging Maddie Raymond stable, the four-year-old gelding has built a solid record for himself in 14 starts, with the best just around the corner.
The son of Rebel Raider caught the eye fresh at Moonee Valley when knuckling down strongly over the concluding stages to find minor money.
Sure to appreciate the extra moving room, Home Rule shoulders a handy record over this journey and is drawn ideally under Harry Grace – who strikes at impressive 50% for Raymond runners (10 rides).
Doesn't have to raise the bar by much (if at all) to take this out.
Our next best play of the day is the consistent Struck By in the race prior (seven).
The speedy five-year-old has once again returned in superb form this prep, scoring two back at Murray Bridge when leading pillar to post.
The speedster proved too quick for his own good last, entering the straight with the fuel light flashing after setting a blistering early tempo.
Struck By showed plenty of heart in the way he held onto third behind the handy Sandy Prince and eventual winner, My Khalifa – who he now meets better at the weights.
No doubt Struck By will once again endeavour to find the front but I don't expect him to burn up as much, hopefully this time leaving some gas in reserve.
