Best From The West: Ascot – 18th March 2023

We might be heading to Derbies and Quokkas but it is short course action at Ascot this week.

The Supremacy Stakes is a lead up for the Karrakatta Plate and while barriers are usually critically important for the babies, sometimes you just have to look at the form

Live To Tell on debut was beaten a short margin when odds on (and heavily supported) over this course and distance.

The horse she ran into – Brave Halo. He won his next couple with ease then headed east when very stiff in the Prelude then the Blue Diamond itself. That form could well play a big role in the Golden Slipper on Saturday too.

The filly by Territories was put out and has trialled rather well in the lead Early speed will be needed from this draw but it may just mean we get a better price.

Unless luck intervenes or something unraced does a big job, we'll take the odds.

It would be appropriate if something with plenty of age on its side won the Rock Magic and while Red Can Man is only a 6yo, he's been in a few battles.

Off a freshen at the end of the year he ran a top second in the Colonel Reeves then was on speed when they came from last in the Winterbottom. His subsequent Gold Rush effort at the 7 f was very acceptable too.

He is probably well placed here under the conditions not giving away much weight bar to the filly.

If he can maintain close contact with the leaders, he'll run a race.
