Japan Racing Preview- 16th of February 2023

Racing And Sports brings you the best bets from Japan's local racing.

Three meetings across Japan today with racing from Urawa, Himeji and Nagoya. We've done the form and identified the best bets across the day.

Urawa Race 6- #11 Lovely Gal

Looks a race in two here and I think we'll get the better price for Lovely Gal who is coming off a last start win here over 7 f. She made an early move there, taking the lead at the 4 f mark and kicking on strongly to score narrowly. The win rated well and actually has her slightly ahead of #12 Barolo Flavor, who was narrowly beaten last start. He started $1.60 last start so is likely to go off favourite again but Lovely Gal has identical peak ratings and a better last start run so at the better price I see no reason to be against her.

Nagoya Race 9- #6 Meisho Beret

Another race where I'm keen to be against the likely favourite as Meisho Beret brings the better recent ratings into this having won two in a row prior to last start when up in class, running well for fourth. Now she drops back to a slightly easier race and if she's able to bounce back to the form that saw her lead all of the way to win by 2 lengths at this track and distance two starts ago, she should be very hard to beat. #9 Keiai Galaxy started $1.30 last start but could only manage second. I think Meisho Beret brings the better recent form and Keiai Galaxy's last start SP should keep Meisho Beret at the better price.

Himeji Race 4- #10 Rickey's Letter

Interesting little race here with a few chances and the two with the highest ratings resuming from spells. Rickey's Letter is one of them having only had two starts for the Mozaki stable, winning at her Sonoda debut in smart fashion before running fourth and being tipped out. If she's able to run to the level she did first up last time in I think she'll take a power of beating in this with each-way odds expected. #5 Say Good Bye started $2.10 last start but could only manage sixth. She did end last campaign with a win but I think she'll start too short here against Rickey's Letter who has higher peaks.

Himeji Race 10- #7 Nexus Heart

Open race but I think Nexus Heart is the one to beat. The five-year-olds is racing in consistent form having finished in the first five in all four runs this time placing at his past two. Last start he ran third at this track and distance which was his first run at Himeji and he was only run down late after leading, eventually going down by 0.8 lengths. With that experience under the belt I think he's well placed here to go a couple better and has shown the ability to rate higher having run second at Sonoda previously. #2 Wonny will take beating with very similar recent numbers but Nexus Heart can go a bit better than last start and will take catching.
