Best From The West: Ascot – 14th January 2023

We have Take II of the Perth Cup this week and while much of the field has another go, some of these are now a long time between runs.

Given that, the first time around we fancied Truly Inspired and he has the slight advantage of having run just the three weeks ago.

There is still that great history with these colours in this race and he is the younger brother of the sadly departed Truly Great who won a Kingston Town and was a half head off winning this very race two years back.

Making strides through the lower ratings ranks, he then stepped up to black type for the first time when coming from last to win the ATA Stakes.

We've lost W Pike but hopefully the Kersley name inspires Fred to get him home. From this gate you'd expect he'll be dragged early, moving from the half mile tracking up the other main hopes and being strong late.

Earlier, there is only a small field in the Listed Miss Andretti Stakes but we'll suggest How's The Serenity can go back to back this time in.

She came off a prep perhaps dulled by soft tracks in the Winter and so rebounded on the dry first up in the Summer Scorcher.

The 5yo found the front and held them all off. This race is not much different and while up in the weights, stick with a mare in form.

Also, Simon Miller has stuck with the apprentice in another black type race which is a great sign for both the confidence of him and Holly Watson.
