Best From The West: Ascot – 17th December 2022

Even though the Pinnacles carnival is over there is still group racing at Ascot over summer.

The big race on the card is the G2 Ted Van Heemst Stakes and the Northerly Stakes form has to be the key.

Steinem has been in some grand form this time in without getting a win and now she is at the right type of trip.

By Frankel out of a Dansili mare, it says a mile and a half and yet this 1 5⁄16 m is the furthest she has run to.

From a lovely gate, John Allen should be right on the pace if they go slow of just off them if they go fast.

This is her race to get a confidence boosting win and stamp herself as a stayer of the future.

Over to the last where Pat's Got Sass does look well placed for two reasons.

Remember this time last year she ran in the WA Guineas and Lee-Steere Classic but then showed probably what she needs is some ground, just missing in the Belmont Oaks in July.

She took on the Jungle Dawn last time, sat on the pace and just got run down late but that was when coming back in trip.

Now she is back to the mile and has a lovely 7lbs claim for Taj Dyson which could be critical late.

BET OF THE DAY: Race 8 #10 Steinem @ $2.90

EACH WAY PLAY: Race 9 #1 Pat's Got Sass @ $8.00
