Sydney Specials: Randwick - Saturday, 10th December 2022

Another week, another multi-million dollar race in Sydney.

The last million dollar race in Sydney for two months! We'll have to wait until February 11th for the Inglis Millenium before any decent cash is thrown around again. This week we've got the appetiser to that in the Inglis Nursery, and The Ingham (formerly The Villiers) which is this week's $2 million race and has attracted your usual suspect through The Gong, with the favourite unlikely to get a run.

I won't be bothering to try and pick that race apart although would've loved Sunshine Rising to draw a gate having run well off 2 years first up when wide. He can run well again and the switch to the mile start at Randwick may negate the draw if Sherry can find a spot.

Instead we look to Race 4 as an interesting betting proposition, and again with plenty of usual suspects over 2400m.

The Derby winner Warning has been ticking along okay this preparation and gets a few things in his favour here. Firstly, he drops in class having run at Group 3 level his last two, beaten by the handy Surefire and the exciting Soulcombe.

The form out of that Queens Cup has worked out quite well with Persan, who similarly sat on the speed, running third in the Zipping Classic and Luncies who held down second at Flemington again running second in the Zipping Classic.

Interestingly, that was Nash's first defeat on the horse from three starts, having won aboard him last year in both the Queen Elizabeth and Zipping Classic. Ratings of 112 and 116 there are more than good enough to be winning this and I think Gin Martini is very suspect at the head of the market coming back from 3200m.

As much as double figures is being bet for the smart shopper which looks very reasonable for what in essence, the best horse in the race.

Another race where the favourite looks suspect is the sixth, the horse in question Authentic Jewel. She was nailed on the line over 5 1⁄2 f at Rosehill latest which is comfortably the best last start rating at the weights in this field, but now she has to step to 6 f which is a huge query.

She also has Jay Ford replacing Brenton Avdulla which is a negative and there's a horse that finished behind her who makes more appeal.

Per Inaway started $4.60 to Authentic Jewel's $7.50 first up with the prices more than reversed this time. Per Inaway was first up there and just got too far out of her ground with a bumping duel at the top of the straight unlikely to help either.

She now meets Authentic Jewel 4kgs better at the weights, partly due to Dylan Gibbons's 4lbs claim (which is worth its weight in lengths at the minute), is much better suited out to 6 f and should land midfield or better from the middle draw.

With only eight starts under her belt she's still got plenty of upside and if she's close enough, which she should she's a big chance. As much as 7-1 is being bet about her which I think is too big.

Race 4 #2 Warning @ $10.00

Race 6 #8 Per Inaway @ $8.00
