Sydney Specials - Rosehill: Saturday, 5th November 2022

The Sydney Spring carnival wraps up on Saturday at Rosehill with another couple of million-dollar races, including the $2 million Five Diamonds.

Excited to be making my Sydney Specials debut this Saturday, Simmo apparently needing a spell after tipping basically every second on Tuesday's card.

Sydneysiders are laughing as Rosehill will race hard and fast while Cup week in Melbourne has been largely run on a heavy track, and I'd think on-pace is the place to be this Saturday.

Ellsberg comes up a short priced favourite in the Five Diamonds and looks a rightful one, but I'm happy to leave him be at 1 1⁄8 m. He rates well clear of anything in this field off his last two starts and has been strong at the end of 1600 and 7 1⁄2 f his last two, but he is a slight query at the trip.

Electric Girl is my best of the day in race 7, The Hot Danish, which she won last year, and hasn't won since. That's not to say she's racing poorly though- her ratings this time in have been solid.

She was well beaten first up but bounced out of that to run second to Shades Of Rose in the Sheraco, a narrow fifth in the Golden Pendant to Nimalee when not fully tested, and she probably should've won the famed Invitation last start when held up and charging late behind Promise Of Success.

She's incredibly well weighted under the set weights conditions and given her main danger in the market is Sheeza Belter, who brings that shaky JJ Atkins form and meets her worse at the weights from a 3 length beating last time, she's easy to like.

Bowman is back in Sydney to ride and from barrier 5 I think she just slots into the 1-1. She's a very deserving favourite and 2-1 looks fair, with the drier ground in her favour as well.

For something at a price, I'll wait until the last with Short Shorts getting a bit in her favour to run well. There's precious little speed in the race and she looks likely to cross and control the race with 119lbs which could be the place to be.

She rated down last start at Warwick Farm but was only beaten 1.3 lengths and her two ratings of 93 prior this preparation stack up very strongly in this field at the weights. She's not the classiest horse in the field but has come back very well and if she gets things her own way I expect her to be at least holding on for a place.

Bet of the day: Race 7 #1 Electric Girl @ $3.20

Each way play: Race 10 #13 Short Shorts @ $11/3.4
