Triple Missile wins Winter Championship Series Heat 1: Post Race Trainer and Jockey Quotes

Trainer and jockey quotes after the VRC-CRV Winter Championship Series Heat 1 at Flemington on Saturday won by Triple Missile.

Race Result:

1st: Triple Missile (Craig Newitt/Lindsey Smith) - $3.40F
2nd: Mystery Shot (Will Price/Lindsey Smith) - $15
3rd: Biometric (Michael Dee/Ben & JD Hayes) - $17

Winning Time: 1:24.77 Last 600m: N/A

Margins: Long Head x ¾ lengths

Winning Trainer: Lindsey Smith (Shane Jackson speaking)

Getting the quinella: "They've both run storming races, great to get the quinella. The second horse (Mystery Shot) has run huge, he probably wants a little bit further but take nothing from the winner, he's a beautiful horse."

During the run: "He probably got a little bit keen early, in a bit of a sticky spot but Froggy (Newitt) gave him a great ride, he tracked our other horse through and got the room when he needed it and had that huge finish."

Improvement from Warrnambool: "The ground didn't help at Warrnambool but he was probably carrying a little bit of condition and nine days between runs, he had one gallop in between and that's done the trick because he's seen out the seven furlongs no worries."

Winning Jockey: Craig Newitt

Down to ride both: "I was sitting there last night and it was raining and I was thinking maybe Mystery Shot but they both looked like really good chances in the race and he's got a really good turn of foot this bloke."

During the run: "We were probably a little bit closer in the run today with the hood on and up to 7 f, but he pulled out enough to get the job done."

Potential: "He's going the right way, his two runs in Victoria have been excellent. Dec said he never handled the deck at Warrnambool and he still ran really well. The wetter the tracks get is going to be the question but he's obviously going to be very competitive in the series."
