Sydney Specials: Gosford – 7th May 2022

Feature racing in Sydney moves to Gosford on Saturday with the hope of a soft track by Saturday morning.

Currently rated a Heavy 8 however the rain missed the track this morning and the club remains hopeful the track will improve.

A few dual acceptors across the program, however all-in-all there is decent sized fields and a number of good betting contests.

The best bet of the day comes up in the final event with the Bjorn Baker trained Battleton.

Gelded this time in the son of Zoustar did a great job in his maiden preparation, winning on debut before finishing fifth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes when last seen.

The form around both Mazu and Home Affairs obviously makes for good reading and he looks very well placed back in Bm78 company.

Two trials should have him fairly forward and the wide draw keeps him out of trouble with main danger Coal Crusher a chance of getting caught three-wide.

Trust in Collett to find the running line and he looks very hard to beat, I thought he was entitled to be odds-on.

The Chris Waller trained Blondeau looked to mix his form last preparation however confident he was airborne, he was just given little chance from wide draws.

Often a sectional star he looks well placed in the Takeover Target Stakes and did win very well fresh this day last year.

Raw times are always dangerous, however he did run 6L faster than last year's Takeover Target winner Enchanted Heart.

I suspect the stable have looked at that and no real surprise they elect to run here instead of going up to the Gold Coast.

Inside draws are always tricky for backmarkers, however he has shown in the past that he can settle closer when allowed to so hoping he can land a spot midfield.

Up in grade but he has shown he has the talent and looks a solid each-way gamble.
