Say From SA: Morphettville – 30th April 2022

The first of four weeks of G1 action begins at Morphettville on the weekend.

It is Australasian Oaks day and the fillies run in a very open feature race. Thinking there are two value plays in the Oaks and given there are several angles you can take, we're happy to go down that street.

The first is Bon's A Pearla who hasn't won a race this time in but has been excellent in many of them.

Once she got to the mile, she showed her ability and that came against the boys in the Australian Guineas. Hitotsu was good enough to run over her but that is hardly an indictment on her form.

She has then twice been running up in fillies events, giving away too much ground. Now from the low draw, she can sit a lot closer and get moving earlier.

The other one to focus on comes via a far different path. Mamounia had a strange course to this prep going 1300 to 2000 in the Adrian Knox, missing the Sydney Oaks for the Galilee Final and now back in trip.

That form from Caulfield stood up in the Leger and from the draw she will be out the back but it will be a swarm to the corner. She could well have last crack at them.

Having D Oliver up is only going to help as he has plenty of licence to make a play given his resume.

For the best of the day, always happy to be in the corner of the Price/Kent Jnr stable with a young horse and Illation will only build on his lovely debut win.

In the Nitschke Stakes, this son of So You Think is second up after a dominant win at Pakenham.

He comes up with gate one over the same 7 f journey and on this track, that is often a good place to be if you can jump well.

Expecting him to be in front of several of the other good hopes in the race and from there, show his ability again.
