Best From The West: Ascot – 9th April 2022

It is WATC Derby day and so we’ll be looking to see if any of these will go on to be nice stayers of the future.

Alaskan God has the plaudits from his win in the Melvista two weeks ago but I think the runner up was equally as good a run and gets some things in his favour.

Trix Of The Trade went all the way back to near last from his draw last time and gave up four lengths in running to his main rival that day.

They both finished with similar type splits but there is another factor this time around.

In the Melvista, it was run under Set Weights & Penalties scale but the Derby is on level terms so there is a 7lbs turn around in favour of the runner up.

More than happy to think if they make their runs together that he will have the ability to turn over that last result.

Really liked the way God Has Chosen kept developing at the end of last year and given his overall record, we will play him resuming in Race 6.

This Playing God 4yo has five wins and three seconds from his eight outings. The runs for Lindsey Smith keep showing improvement and this looks a lovely sweet spot distance for him too.

From the inside draw he could camp behind the leader or be midfield but it's not a large field so with the weight, they won't need to hustle and bustle early.

Enjoy taking those younger horses on an upward spiral compared to some who have had the limelight previously.
