Best From The West: Ascot – 19th March 2022

Important juvenile racing features this weekend as we head toward the Karrakatta Plate here at Ascot.

The girls division is the G3 Gimcrack Stakes where Simon Miller has a brilliant record in this event winning it four times.

Here he will saddle up the favourite Amelia's Jewel and she scored in the Supremacy Stakes at her first attempt.

Happy to sit just off them, she wound over the top and drew clear late. Off that the added 0 only seems to be more beneficial.

Probably only the wide gate is what stops her being shorter and we may even get better odds. It did look a classy win on debut to say her next two will be stronger.

The boys then go around in the Listed Perth Stakes in the following race and it is a more open affair.

But in another Listed race later the Grandstand Cup for the older horses offers more value.

Son Of Bacchus can take a run or two to get into his mojo and that seems the case again this time in.

There was enough to say he did himself no negatives when held up at vital times in the Bunbury Stakes.

When the leaders were off and gone, he had no room. But he closed off well and was only beaten two lengths.

Another 0 helps and you only have to go back to November when he was close behind Kissonallforcheeks in the RJ Peters. We've now seen how her form stacks up on West and East coasts.
