Best From The West: Ascot – 20th November 2021

It’s the first of the big ones this week with the Railway Stakes at Ascot.

For the record it is ever so hard seeing Western Empire being beaten in the He's got the right jockey, trainers, owner, gate, form, weight – it's no wonder he's already evens to 6-4on.

So we better leave him go and concentrate on other races where we have to stick with It'Sarayday in the WA Guineas.

He has been good to us so far and in winning the Fairetha Stakes he showed he could handle racing these 3yos.

Sitting just off the pace in a lovely spot, he was able to roll into it on the corner and got clear at the 1 f. Given how he finished, it is difficult to see him not running the mile.

From the perfect gate to be doing that, he should have track position on the favoured fillies in the race and then it is up to him.

Sometimes a race suits a trainer as much as a horse and the Placid Ark Stakes has been that way for Simon Miller.

He's won it five of the last nine times and in Liwa he has a value chance again.

This filly rattled late to win first up and then tried to do the same in the Belgravia but ran into some very decent 3yos.

Again he drew poorly in the Burgess Queen but they went forward that time and it wasn't really her pattern.

Thinking here is back to the 6 f, drawn to sit midfield and hoping they run along in a field of many chances, she can hit the line hard.

Happy to play here each way in this given Simon's record and hopefully it is a big day for him and Patrick Carbery.
