Best From The West: Ascot – 30th October 2021

The Perth Summer Carnival is ready to rumble and there are some group races this week – as long as the weather improves.

It's been a wet winter and is still playing some havoc after the meeting on Wednesday was abandoned. Ascot does dry out and with no more rain you'd think soft at worst.

Eleven races will test you on the form but it's usually a fair play to find the really good Pike/Williams/Peters horse as the good thing in Perth and Real Charisma seems to be a mare on the rise.

The 4yo by I Am Invincible returned in lovely style coming from last here (never easy to over the 1400m.

She gets to the mile now, will be allowed to ease early and is unbeaten when the surface has some give.

Could she be a sneaky lightweight Railway horse for the great team? She'd be looking to win possibly the Peters to get in.

Later on it seems almost impossible but you have to love the way the 12yo (yes 12yo) Rock Magic attacked the line in the Crawford Stakes.

He was back near last and didn't miss by much after being well supported too so connections must have known how he was travelling pre-race.

The old boy has multiple wins on softer tracks and that is possibly good for him at this age against this standard just to slow them down.

He did place in the G1 Winterbottom 48 weeks ago so it's not like he's struggling into retirement.

Admittedly it has been some time since he scored in the Northam Stakes but things look to suit from the draw and they are offering double figures so play him 1x3 in the Prince Of Wales.
