Sydney Specials: Kembla Grange – 14th of August 2021

We shift to Kembla Grange on Saturday with plenty of betting options across the 10 race card program.

Initially I didn't like the look off this meeting but on closer inspection there looks to be a number of solid betting opportunities.

The Bjorn Baker trained Frosty Rocks has come up favourite in the seventh event and while a solid winner first up he looks the lay of the day.

In three attempts second up he has never featured and looks a big risk getting back onto a firm track.

Notably his last and only win on a good track came when breaking his maiden back in April last year.

Last preparation his two worst runs came on good tracks, one of them being second up at Eagle Farm.

On that occasion he regressed five lengths off his first up win at Rosehill.

Yes he looks to get all the favours on the map but I have to be hard against.

The Chris Waller trained Oscar Zulu failed to fire last start but happy to be forgiving as his form prior sees him very well placed.

Given four weeks between runs this looks a mini-reboot and unlike Frosty Rocks he should relish the firmer track.

Drawn to land in the gun spot for McEvoy and if able to bounce back to his best he goes very close.

The Gary Frazer trained Tocomah put a gap in them at Gosford last start and while stepping up noticeably in grade he projects to take that next step.

I for one try to avoid backing last start maiden winners especially when making the jump from provincial to metropolitan but this looks well within his reach.

Also when you delve a little bit deeper a majority of the market leaders only have a maiden win to their name anyway – King Of Sparta, Bacchanalia, Starman and Conceited.

Forced to sit wide throughout visually he was very impressive at Gosford with the data also backing up the strength of his performance.

When assessing last start ratings (weight adjusted) he sits top and confident there is more to come with this son of Toronado.

Had he been trained by James Cummings and ridden by James McDonald last start he would be firm 2-1 favourite tomorrow.

Fortunately for us he wasn't and we are getting more than double the price – bet up!

Simon Dinopoulos' Tips:

Race 4 #7 Tocomah @ $7.00
