The Melbourne Mail: Flemington - 3rd July 2021

It's one of the great days on the Melbourne punters calendar. Winter Finals Day at Flemington, and the betting looks typically terrific.

Our bet of the day comes up in the second race on the card, the Silver Bowl Final. We threw up Seb Song as a bet at Sandown a few weeks back and he ran well after getting into a terrible spot in running on day where it paid to be handy.

He did a good job to close into fourth against the pattern there and was again left poorly placed at Cranbourne on heavy ground last time. Some of this has been of his own making. He isn't a great beginner and it's leaving him in some nasty spots, but he gets Jamie Kah for the Final now and his first up win, which returned sharp figures and has worked out really well, has him looking a terrific chance of winning this this if he can get himself into a more high-percentage position in running.

Kah has been the story of the season in Melbourne so far, and needs just three winners to get to 100 winners in town this season with a month to Some achievement, and we are hoping that she gets there sooner rather than later with our each way play also running under the star hoop.

Odeon runs with a good chance in the Winter Championship Final itself, despite being a veteran of 50 starts and having no real upside to speak of.

The reason the pen lands on him in this is largely to do with Kah and the map. There is no real speed engaged here and Odeon may just get the chance to put them to sleep off the front.

He was beaten fair-and-square by race favourite Dice Roll in the main lead up but he wasn't beaten far and it was a genuinely run race that day. That is far from assured this time and, while he was good enough to get away with it is notable that Dice Roll took some winding up and was left briefly looking vulnerable for pace when winning off a slow tempo two starts back.

Essentially we are betting that Odeon can steal it but in Kah he has the right accomplice for this crime and each way odds are appealing with several looking sure to be disadvantaged against Odeon in the run.
