The Melbourne Mail: Caulfield - 8th February 2020

The first Group 1 of the new year, the Orr Stakes, takes place on Saturday and it looks a good betting heat.

The Australia Stakes was a messy race but it was well-run, the time was pretty good, and the winner Scales Of Justice earned his place at the top of the Orr Stakes betting by winning it.

Scales Of Justice has a ratings edge on most and those who can match him look less suited by the Caulfield 1400m which Scales Of Justice romped around in fast time to win the Memsie back in the spring.

That said, the market knows all of this, and if there's an edge there it's unlikely that it is massive. And if there's an edge there, it unlikely that there isn't one with So Si Bon as well - and he makes it into the Melbourne Mail as our each way play on Saturday with priced 25-1 and bigger in early betting underselling the chances of the notorious non-winner who we are preferring to describe as Memsie Stakes runner up.

He is priced as the non-winner but through the prism of his Memsie placing he has a great chance here and we are happy to take the odds about him landing a knockout in the first Group One of 2020. What a way to start the year So Si Bon winning an Orr Stakes would be!

For out bet of the day we will go for something a bit tougher and more reliable.

Anaheed is certainly that. She is a strong filly and probably still underrated despite her winning the Blue Sapphire here in the spring and putting up a typically hard nosed display to be placed in the Manikato.

She's got a string of figures that can win this, she looks like getting a great run tracking the speed, and she's better suited at the trip than many of her key rivals. All things to like.

Bet Of The Day: Race 6 #10 Anaheed @ $3.80

Each Way Play: Race 8 #7 So Si Bon @ $26.00
