The Melbourne Mail: Flemington - 14th September 2019

A deep and interesting undercard backs up the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes where Mystic Journey headlines for Tasmania.

The Makybe Diva looks to set up well for the star Tasmanian, Mystic Journey, with the lack of obvious pace likely to work to her strengths over those of her key form rivals.

The betting seems well aware of that, though, and we will leave her alone with our best coming up in the last in the form of Captain Cook, a horse we fancied as an each way play last time but had to settle for second.

The last is loaded with horses first up and/or looking for more ground while Captain Cook lands in what looks an ideal race for him and with a great platform off two really strong efforts since coming to Australia.

The Captain's namesake improved for voyages in Australia and he should be able to as well with Saturday presenting as a good oppurtunity for him to plunder a valuable prize.

For an each way play we go back to race three, a hugely competitive listed race for the three-year-olds.

Here we find a Group 2 winner who was one of the best fillies of her generation last season but looked fairly plain first up - Tenley

Staying on theme, there is some chance that we are siding with a sinking ship here, but she produced figures last season that pointed to her being a good bit better than races like this one and while she did look flat first up it was in a white hot contest where more horses would look ordinary than not.

1400m looks a big tick and gives her a nice chance to coil the spring, a chance she simply didn't have in a 6 f race that was run in a sizzling 67.9 seconds last time.

Bet Of The Day: Race 9 #6 Captain Cook @ $4.00

Each Way Play: Race 3 #11 Tenley @ $7.50
