Brisbane Best: Gold Coast – 24th August 2019

The focus turns to the Gold Coast this week where we see some good-sized fields with highly competitive racing later in the program.

One of the better bets is the ever-consistent mare Tardis, who lines up in the Coolphase Community Handicap over 1400m.

The Edmonds-trained mare doesn't know how to run a bad race having put together a string of wins and placings, the latest when beaten less than a length into second in similar grade at Doomben.

All of her recent runs have come at 6 f so the step up to 7 f is significant having won her only attempt at the trip and she was also successful the only time she raced at Gold Coast.

Tardis has been returning consistently high ratings that stack up strongly in this line up and Jackson Murphy should be able to slot her into a good position from a favourable draw.

Last-start winner La Pulga offers each way value in the Business Insurance Group Benchmark 70 over 1800m.

The lightly-raced Michael Costa-trained four-old is making good progress and rated well when scoring over this distance a fortnight ago.

This is a bit stronger but he has good upside and is drawn to get the right run in transit.

There is some depth to the race but with most of his main rivals having some questions marks over barriers, class rises or weight, La Pulga could be worth an each way ticket.

BET OF THE DAY: Race 8 #4 Tardis @ $3.40

EACH WAY PLAY: Race 7 #9 La Pulga @ $10.00
