Racing Preview : Canberra - Friday, 11th October 2019

Tony Campbell Memorial Raceday is one of the highlights on the ACT racing calendar. The track is rates a good 4 with a 50% chance of a shower or two. The rail is positioned out 5 metres the entire circuit.

Race 1 (2000m)

Time Stamp may be allowed to run along today and Olmeto can trail. Most are up to the middle distance for the first time making it an interesting form assignment. The Maiden STREET CRED caught the eye late here three weeks ago at the mile behind the impressive Majella. He's had plenty of tries, but should see it out better than most and the low gate should advantage. TIME STAMP impressed just beaten over a sprint here on debut when leading, and then went to the Maiden mile at Newcastle and flopped heavily-backed. He was restrained in that and stewards inquired inconclusively into the performance. He has the figures to win, but the 1 1⁄4 m has to be some query. OLMETO was beaten by a space by Porky Pies at Nowra in a CL1 jumping from the mile, but toughed it out well seeing off the others. Coming back 1 f will suit and he's sure to be hitting the line. OPERA TICKETS improved at Grenfell winning the Open 3 comfortably at this distance. Cahill sticks and he should be around the mark.

Race 2 (1400m)

Zoumaze gets the opportunity to lead. NOVEMBER MORNING draws to advantage and will be better for the three runs back. The form reads well for this and the stable is hard to risk at this or any venue. ZOUMAZE is also fourth up and go on the near miss at Kembla two back. He's also city-trained and is feared with the blinkers coming off. Another Sydneysider HARAMAIN has showed little at her two race runs, but since last seen has won a Warwick Farm trial by a space. Gets Lever (who's been on fire here) and the gelding could surprise at odds. Stablemate DUCHESS OF WINDSOR is up to this at best and third-up should be ready to show something. Not sure where she gets to from the rail, but can work into MR COSTIGAN should get a good run in transit and looks capable of filling a slot.

Race 3 (1300m)

Rubaiya may be the one to lead from the low gate. This is tricky and the market must be monitored closely. NAHAB will be improved third-up off solid efforts at Newcastle. The draw is a negative but expect her to take beating for the leading Sydney yard. RUBAIYA resumes for Matt Dale and deserves close market attention. She didn't have much luck on debut but looked a nice galloper in the making. BALLADEER for Team Snowden and AMORE MODERNO also debut and need to be kept safe. GAMBLERS QUEST is threatening for the local yard and is fancied in early markets.

Race 4 (1400m)

It's not clear who leads with Pinetti a candidate drawn low with the blinkers applied. RHEINGAU is a former Queenslander who impressed placing here three weeks ago behind Madam Oaks. He looks to be getting back to his best form and can go one better using the low gate and with Cahill going CHAPELIS impressed winning the Nowra Maiden at her third run coming hard from the back. He keeps Penza and looks capable of going right on with SINGLE STORY resumed in stronger at Newcastle and needed it as the market suggested. He would be a player at best and can improve for Team Snowden without surprising. KARMAZONE did a good job winning the Maiden at Orange on debut and that stacks Just needs a good ride to play a role in the finish.

Race 5 (1000m)

Speed across the barriers with Damagic a likely leader. HARD CORE can win this at best and third-up is ready for improvement. He will get every chance from the low gate. ROMEO VELLA resumes for the local yard and has won 2//3 fresh. Gets the 9lbs for an improving apprentice and just needs some luck pushing forward to go close. FREUNDIN won as expected second-up at Corowa and the Olive galloper has more to give. She will use the rail and a win wouldn't surprise. Damagic made good improvement here at the last meeting and will be round the mark.

Race 6 (1200m)

Not much early speed to speak DENMISS ran her best race just missing in the Federal three weeks ago behind Sausedge. She impressed coming from a long way back in that and looks well-placed in this grade. A good kick from the low gate would help but she is the one to beat. Open behind her. ONS VIER has been plain the last two but this race suits better and giving her another chance. She gets Loy today for the apprentice. TE ATA is capable and should be ready third up to show something. She's back in grade and the 9lbs claim should bring her right into LADY MIRONTON resumes and has run well fresh. She's trialled at Wagga and a forward run is likely.

Race 7 (1300m)

Monte Majura gets the opportunity the opportunity to cross-over and run them along with Mosh Vain.  MONTE MAJURA missed the kick and did a big job to be beaten 1L here by Polar Star three weeks ago. He had come off a setback and his figures at the back of the last campaign read very well. He looks the one at a favourite trip and with a good ride from the 9lbs claimer.  CHABROL peaks now and no surprise if he shows more getting the advantage of the rail. The scratchings bring the Dryden pair BALONNE an HEAVEN ON EARTH right into it and doubt there's much between them.

Race 8 (1400m) Tony Campbell Memorial

Coup De Main, I am Kilani and Bart will all race handy and expect a solid tempo. COUP DE MAIN has had two runs for Matt Dale and impressed in both placing at Kembla. He led missing a lip the latest posting a big relative figure. He has the speed to clear the tricky gate and is clearly the one to beat with the big weight drop and the winkers going Stablemate SAUSEDGE won the Federal comfortably here three weeks ago and can build on that. Lever gets off to ride the above and that's a lead. She's some danger. I AM KALANI recorded a good win here resuming and then led at Canterbury after working and faded out. She has upside and will go much better today. WHO'S KNOCKING needed it resuming and will be much more competitive at the 1400m.

Race 9 (1200m)

Lightly raced and a few debutants and speculative how they settle. INCEPTIVE resumes for Matt Dale and showed plenty on debut when close-up as favourite. She needs to manage a wide gate but looks to have plenty of ability and expect her to be ready to JOY AND MIRTH has placed 3/4 and needed the hit-out first up at Newcastle. She had come off good trials and can make sharp improvement with McDougall going MODERNITY will have to clear a wide gate but gets the form hoop and has more to give off the close-up effort at Nowra. BUDHWAR gets a low gate for his debut and missed a lip in a recent Rosehill trial. Keep a very close eye on the market with him.
