Brisbane Best - Doomben - September 7

Saturday racing returns to Doomben which will feature a competitive nine race card although with some rain around we could see a slow - heavy track

Tawfiq Boy (1200m) measures up well in the Benchmark 80 over 6 f on the back of two strong runs this campaign in Queensland.
Running a narrow second first up over 5 1⁄4 f to the above average Meet Mr Taylor, the Kris Lees-trained runner then went on to beat Capital Connection at the Sunshine Coast last start and he remains over the 6 f trip again.
Tawfiq Boy possesses a very handy career record, rarely out of the placings and from barrier 2 Jeff Lloyd should put him in a good spot on the speed again.
The five-year-old gelding does go up in grade on his last two efforts but he rates well against his rivals on weight adjusted ratings and does his best racing over this trip.
Tawfiq Boy is yet to win on a wet track but he has placed in 6/7 runs previously and if he runs up to his last couple of outings he can get the job done again in this.
Currently $2.70 in the market, wouldn’t want to take anything below the $2.50 particularly if wet but with just eight runners in the field he will take plenty of getting past.
Last week Fiery Heights (Race 7 went close to getting the job done as our each way play when runner up to Tversky over 6 f at the Sunshine Coast.
The six-year-old gelding looked the winner before being grabbed over the concluding stages and he goes up to 6 3⁄4 f today where he has a solid enough record.
Should push forward from barrier six and settle on the speed and he is also proven on wet tracks should the rain play a part during the day.
Should appreciate getting back on the Doomben track today where he has a strong record and at the current price of $3.50 happy to give him another chance today in this company.
Good luck!
Bet of the day 1: Race 2 #5 Tawfiq Boy @ $2.70
Bet of the day 2: Race 7 #3 Fiery Heights @ $3.50
