Mares Races Preferred For I Am A Star

Group One winning mare I Am A Star will be kept to her own sex for the rest of the spring according to her trainer Shane Nichols.
Nichols mapped out his spring program for I Am A Star after the 5YO resumed with a pleasing fourth in the G3 Aurie’s Star at Flemington on Saturday won by Voodoo Lad.
It was her first start since last November after hoof and back issues forced her to miss the autumn.
Nichols named the G3 Cockram Stakes (1200m), G2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) and G2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) as races on the immediate agenda.
“I was pretty happy with how she went,” said Nichols, reflecting on her I AM A Star’s first-up effort over 6 f.
"I thought I'd done enough with her to hit the line stronger than what she did.
“She had a good blow so she'll probably take great benefit from that."
I Am A Star won the G1 Myer Classic at Flemington in 2016 and that race may again be her ultimate spring goal.
She also won the Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley in 2017 before G1 failures in the Toorak Handicap and Myer Classic last spring.
