Wonder Gadot Wins Queens Plate At Woodbine

Wonder Gadot, the classy Medaglia D’Oro filly trained by Mark Casse, joined an elite group when she won Canada’s prestigious G1 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine on Saturday.
She is the fourth 3YO filly in the last 10 years to win the $1 million feature and is proving to be as tough as they come as she was having her 11th start in 275 days.
She joins Inglorious (2011), Lexie Lou (2014) and last year’s winner Holy Helena as filis to win the Quuen’s Plate over 10 furlongs in thje last decade. Lexie Lou, like Wonder Gadot, was trained by Casse for owner Gary Barber.
Her effortless win by almost five lengths took her record to four wins and seven placings in 12 starts and almost $US1.2 million prizemoney.

Wonder Gadot settled in midfield under John Valazquez with a circuit to travel and was three wide around the first turn. However she was always traveling like a winner and loomed up four deep at the entrance to the straight.
She was always doing the superior work and showed a nice burst of acceleration over the furthest trip of her career to beat Aheadbyacentury and Cooler Mike.
Casse was understandably over the moon and is looking forward to the rest of her season.
He said the Prince of Wales at Fort Erie could set her up well for a crack at the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga on August
“I think if she stays happy and healthy she’s going to be tough,” he said.
“She’ll give anybody in North America a run for their money in the Alabama. She just goes and goes. She’s Wonder Woman.”
Winner of four from five last year when she was Canada’s Sovereign Award-winning juvenile filly, Wonder Gadot had yet to taste victory in 2018 prior to Saturday despite a run of top class placings including seconds in the GI Kentucky Oaks and Woodbine Oaks.
