Seoul Korea: Saturday June 23 Preview

Da Silva Can Make Up Ground On Absent Leaders
The top of the Seoul Jockey’s Premiership has a somewhat unfamiliar look about it as we head towards the halfway point of the 2018 racing season. Last year’s Champion DjordjePerovic has gone, while multi-time Champion Moon Se Young missed two months due to injury, leaving Kim Dong Soo and Lim Gi Won at the top of the table.

Hot on their heels though is Antonio Da Silva and with both Kim and Lim suspended this weekend, the Brazilian rider can make inroads into their lead.

Da Silva, who has ridden 35 winners in 2018 so far – 7 fewer than Lim and 10 behind leader Kim - has nine rides on Saturday’s 11-race card at Seoul and while it is possible none will start as favourite, Da Silva has proven this year than he can get the best out of what he is given to work with. Raon Pro Sense in race 1, Dae Wan Ma in race 2 and the interesting outsider Eternal Korea in race 9 look to be Da Silva’s best chances.

In 6th place in the Premiership is Johan Victoire and while it has been a slightly lean start to June for the French rider, he looks to have a number of live mounts across Saturday’s card. WooseoraIcheon and GwanakHamseong have strong claims in races 6 and 9 respectively while Clean Up Board will be expected to win the concluding race

Early in the card race 2 is a valuable juvenile race. Take Charge Indy was one of the more notable stallion imports into Korea in recent years and his first Korean crop will be highly anticipated. That’s a couple of years away still but his foal Lucas, who was imported in-utero, looked well in trials and should have a very good chance of starting off her career in the best possible way as she makes her debut under Jang Chu Youl.

There are 11 races at Seoul on Saturday from 10:45am to 6pm local Korea time.
