Shoals Fills Everest Slot

Trainer Anthony Freedman is half way to having two starters in the $13 milion Everest after his crack filly Shoals secured her place following an agreement between her owners and slot holder The Star Entertainment Group.
Freedman’s top older sprinter Santa Ana Lane, like Shoals a triple G1 winner this season, is also high in the reckoning to represent a slot holder in the Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October
Shoals is the fifth horse to be confirmed as an Everest slot holder, joining Redzel (Yulong Investments), Trapeze Artist (Aquis Farm), In Her Time (Tapcorp) and Brave Smash (Chris Waller Racing) in the elite 12-horse field.
Shoals has won seven of her 10 starts and more than $2 million prizemoney for owners Jolhn Messara and Jonathon Munz.
This season she has won there G1 race solver distances from 6 f to 1 m in the Myer Classic in Melbourne, Surround Stakes in Sydney and Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide.
Santa Ana Lane won his third G1 for the season in last weekend’s Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane. He previously won the Rupert Clark Stakes in Melbourne and The Goodwood in Adelaide.
Freedman believes Santa Ana Lane’s form this season should have him high on the short list of contender to pick up a slot in The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October
“He should get a shot at The Everest. We've signalled our interest there, so we'll see how that comes about,” Freedman said.
There are still seven slots available for The Everest with slot holders Inglis, Max Whitby, Damion Flower, James Harron, Australian Turf Club, GPI Racing and Coolmore Australia still looking at many available contenders.
Apart from Santa Ana Lane the likes of Kementari, Menari, Pierata, English, Happy Clapper and Estijaab are open to Everest offers from slot holders.
