The Melbourne Mail - May 5

It's been a big a typically big week for the Darren Weir stable at the 'Bool and The Melbourne Mail is banking on that run continuing at Flemington.
The Weir stable fired plenty of shots at the 'Bool, a carnival they have made their own in recent years, but they are still packing plenty of ammo for the weekend and the pick of them, in our opinion, is Land Of Plenty.
Land Of Plenty has become a staple of the Melbourne Mail in recent weeks. We are sitting 1-1 with him at this stage but we can take a lead this time around with a return to Flemington potentially a big plus for him.
He was left a bit flat footed when they sprinted in a slow run race around Caulfield last time. The map this time looks to have reasonable building pressure and Flemington gives him a chance to work through the gears as they corner.
He peaked at this course and distance in the spring and that effort makes for hot reading here. A return to that level is foreseeable and that leaves a win foreseeable.
For an each way play we will roll onto the very interesting last race on the card.
It's probably the race of the day with impressive last start winner Iconoclasm headlining for the Weir team and Naantali a very interesting runner having shown big talent at this point of her spring prep.
One that looks slight over through the same Caulfield race as that pair is Catesby. He finishing in-between them there and we think he was just off his top form. He still has some upside and there are a couple of ratings on his card that give him a better chance than double-figure odds imply in early betting.
Bet Of The Day: Race 7 #8 Land Of Plenty @ $2.50
Each Way Play: Race 9 #3 Catesby @ $12.00
