Brisbane Best - Doomben - April 28

Villermont has been knocking on the door this campaign and finally gets his chance to secure a much deserved win when he lines up in the Gunsynd Classic (1630m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The Ciaron Maher-trained runner comes off some very handy form in Group Company this time in and this shapes up as an easier task today.
Both previous wins have come over this distance range and there was a lot to like about his last start effort when fourth in the Group 3 Carbine Club behind Murraqeb after not having much luck throughout.
That run came on the back of a midfield finish in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), only three and a half lengths from D’argento, seemingly better suited over the mile.
Damian Browne goes on board for the first time and from barrier 11 would expect him to be positive from the barrier and this looks a very nice race for the three-year-old who in the clear class runner of the race.
The current price of $2.60 looks a good bet for the form he brings with him and he can end the day on a winning note for punters.
Earlier in the day Improvise will be looking to knock off the well fancied Torvill in the Gold Coast Bracelet (1630m).
The Chris Waller-trained runner comes off a nice win in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast last start and fifth up now will be ready to fire.
Far from disgraced in races such as the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) last campaign, Improvise looks much better suited over the mile and shapes up as a solid each way chance.
Torvill will need plenty to go her way from the widest barrier and the Clarry Conners-trained runner has also been up for some time.
There is not doubt that Torvill is the class runner of the race but at the short odds of $2.30, prefer to play Improvise each way at the $9 with Damian Browne to remain on board.
Good luck!
Bet of the day: Race 9 #2 Villermont @ $2.60
Each way play: Race 7 #3 Improvise @ $9.00
