Sydney Specials: Randwick – September 16

It should be a case of third time lucky this campaign for Tom Melbourne who contests the Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick on Saturday.
Tom Melbourne has finished second in each of his runs this campaign, seconds which could have just as easily been wins had the gelding enjoyed the rub of the green on either occasion.
Transferred to Chris Waller over the winter, Tom Melbourne was luckless on resuming in an Open Handicap before finishing second to Happy Clapper in the Tramway Handicap (1400m).
The son of Dylan Thomas on that occasion was caught wide no cover throughout on that occasion and after striking the front a long way from home, fought bravely against one of the early Epsom favourites.
A fortnight later he drops back to Group 3 level contesting the Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m).
It looks a suitable race for a gelding deserving of a win on his way to an Epsom tilt in a fortnight’s time.
There is an abundance of value across the nine race program at Randwick on Saturday.
Goodfella is an example of this contesting the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m).
The son of Snitzel resumes after a two-year-old season where he was stakes placed and also produced a fast closing fourth behind Houtzen in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
He has trialled twice in readiness for this and returns to the races with a Tongue Tie applied.
It is also worth noting he’s also had a tie-back operation since that maiden campaign.
Goodfella off his Magic Millions run rates highly amongst this field and knowing he’s had a tie-back operation since then, there is the potential it has sparked further improvement.
