Sydney Specials: Randwick – September 2

A dual Group 1 placegetter from last season looks set to hit the ground running first up at Randwick on Saturday.
Randwick hosts nine races on Saturday and while Winx will steal the spotlight in the Chelmsford Stakes, the balance of the program is strong with Group races on either side.
The first of four Group races on the program is the Concorde Stakes (1000m) where the Bryce Heys-trained Spieth can put a bittersweet 2016/17 racing season behind him.

Spieth emerged as a top line sprinter last season with Group 1 seconds in both the Darley Classic (1200m) during the spring and the Lightning Stakes (1000m) in the autumn.
On both occasions, the son of Thorn Park arguably should have won however torrid runs in transit cost the talented chestnut dearly.
In a six horse Concorde Stakes field which is likely to be strung out due to a noted pacesetter entered in Super Too, luck is not expected to play a role at Randwick for Spieth on Saturday.
Only a Listed winner at this point, Spieth gets in well under Set Weights plus Penalties conditions, meeting all of his rivals on better weight terms than if the sprint was conducted under handicap conditions.
On weight adjusted figures from his Darley Classic and Lightning Stakes efforts, Spieth rates clearly superior to any of his Concorde rivals.
With his get back racing style, hard luck stories will continue to be common for Spieth however in just a six horse Concorde Stakes field on Saturday, connections should enjoy some respite from that.
Later in the program, McCreery appeals at double figure odds contesting the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m).

McCreery returns after an autumn campaign where he won the Liverpool City Cup on resuming and also produced a closing fourth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick behind Tivaci.
The son of Big Bad Bob has a good first up record, is course proven and has a strong record in partnership with Hugh Bowman who takes the ride.
Off a pair of trials in readiness, the UK import can fire fresh once again and is currently quoted at $13.
