Brisbane Best - Gold Coast - August 26

Shogun Sun returns to Brisbane off a successful Sydney trip and looks very hard to beat when he lines up in the three-year-old open (1100m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Returning with a strong run for second at the Sunshine Coast, Shogun Sun then went on to win a Benchmark 75 at Randwick last start when running on strongly in a small field to get the better of Addictive Nature.
This shapes up as an easier task today and despite the big weight gets in well with the 7lbs claim for Jag Guthmann-Chester.
From barrier six expect him to drift back in then field but through the likes of The King's Widow, Meikas, Red Colour and Whypeeo he should get the speed he needs to run over the top of them.
Opened up at $4.40 and is now into $3.20 but that still looks a very good bet for what he has produced in recent times.
There is no doubt a couple of very nice three-year-olds in the race being Whypeeo, Italia Bella and Basara but getting in just 4lbs over the limit Shogun Sun looks to have the race at his mercy.
The following race will see Alassak look to build on his last start win at Doomben over 6 3⁄4 f when he lines up in the Class Six (1400m)
Has an interesting record with five wins from 15 and no placings but he is a type that goes forward and takes plenty of running down.
Has run similar figures his last four outings and does go up 0 on his last couple but rates very well in this company and the $5.50 on offer looks a strong each way bet.
Michael Cahill stays on board and he will go straight to the lead again today along with Landmarks and can certainly prove too good once again.
Good luck
Bet of the day: Race 7 #1 Shogun Sun @ $3.20
Each way play: Race 8 #5 Alassak @ $5.50
