The Virginian Debuts For Brett Cavanough

Stradbroke Handicap placegetter The Virginian is set to make his debut for his new trainer Brett Cavanough at Rosehill on Saturday.
Cavanough, on a high after a run of success on city and country tracks since his move from Albury to Scone, has Saturday’s $150,000 Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick pencilled in for The Virginian.
Previously trained on the Gold Coast by Toby Edmonds, the five-year-old was sent to Cavanough after he finished unplaced in the Listed e Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on July 1.
The Virginian, who has won three of his ten starts, will be ridden by Glyn Schofield on Saturday where he wil meet last season’s G1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes winner Invader.
Hong Kong-bound jockey Tommy Berry has taken the ride on Invader for Peter and Paul Snowden.
Invader has had two recent Randwick barrier trials without being asked for any great effort. He finished last in the first trial on July 10 and fifth second time out last Tuesday.
Saturday’s meeting will be Berry’s last in Sydney before he leaves to take up a riding contract for John Moore in Hong Kong.
