Invincible Gem On Track For Tramway Stakes

Impressive Newcastle mare Invincible Gem will have her next start in the $200,000 Tramway Stakes at Randwick following a change of plans by her trainer Kris Lees.
Lees has revised Invincible Gem’s immediate program following her first-up weight-for-age win over stablemate Le Romain in the G2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 5.
Lees had planned to start the four-year-old in the G3 Toy Show Quality (1200m) at Randwick next Saturday and then give her four weeks between runs.
However he is now looking at the G2 Tramway Stakes (1400m), a race he won three years ago with another high class mare Lucia Valentina.
“The Tramway, being a set weights and penalties race, is shaping as a better alternative,” Lees said.
“Invincible Gem has gone up 14 Benchmark points (94 to 108), which is understandable, for her Missile Stakes win.
“As a result, she would get a lot of weight in the Toy Show and I am mindful she has a long campaign ahead of her.
“If we wait for the Tramway, I will trial her again in the interim.”
Under the conditions of the Tramway, Invincible Gem would carry 121lbs including a 4lbs penalty for her Missile Stakes win.
After the Tramway Invincible Gem will tackle the $400,000 G2 Golden Pendant (1400m) against her own sex at Rosehill on September
Meanwhile Le Romain is heading to Melbourne for his next start in the $1 million Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 2.
“As with Invincible Gem, it’s likely I will also trial him before he goes to Melbourne,” Lees said.
Doomben Cup winner Sense Of Occasion will trial at Newcastle on Wednesday before Lees determines when he will resume. It will be his second trial since he came back from his Brisbane campaign.
