Arrogate Works Towards Del Mar Return

Champion Arrogate is working towards a return to racing in the San Diego Handicap at Del Mar next month.
The G2 San Diego will serve as his lead-up to the G1 Pacific Classic, Del Mar’;s fl;agship race, on August
Arrogate, not seen since his triumph in the World Cup in Dubai in March, worked fast at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Ridden by jockey Martin Garcia, he ran fractions of 24.6, 36.4 and 48 4 with a gallop out to seven furlongs in 1:24.4.
"He went fast and was really cruising around," said trainer Bob Baffert.
"The San Diego is his next race right now. We'll have to see how he's doing, of course, but he'll definitely be leaving for Del Mar.
"Last year I was going to run him against California Chrome in the San Diego but he wasn't quite himself so we didn't run."
Arrogate, who has taken US racing by storm with wins in the GI Travers Stakes, GI Breeders’ Cup Classic, GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational and G1 Dubai World Cup in the last 12 months.
Baffert has another star in Collected, who won the G3 Precisionist Stakes by 14 lengths at Santa Anita on Saturday to add to his plethora of stakes winners who have accounted for most of his stable’s $19 million in purse earnings this year.
"I'd like to breeze Collected on the turf down at Del Mar. He could be a double weapon - turf and dirt,” Baffert said.
Meanwhile Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm has purchased a 50% interest in Arrogate’s dam Bubbler, a daughter of Distorted Humor.
The 11-year-old mare is currently in foal to champion sire Tapit.
Arrogate was Bubbler’s first foal. Her second, third and fourth foals are yet to race.
She has a 2YO filly by Medaglia d’Oro, a yearling filly by Giant’s Causeway and produced a filly by Into Mischief this spring.
Bubbler’s owners Clearsky Farms plans to retain both the Giant’s Causeway filly and her Into Mischief filly to race.
The Medaglia d’Oro filly sold for $300,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Bubbler sold for $170,000 at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton November Sale and then was offered in foal to Into Mischief but was passed in at $4.7 million at that auction last year just days after Arrogate’s Breeders’ Cup Classic victory.
